About

Vangie and Roman first met at Corn Bible Academy in their eighth grade year of school in 2000. In a class of thirteen, the two got to know each other very quickly. Although both of them dated several other people during their high school days, Vangie and Roman continued to be close friends.

It was on a choir trip through Colorado their junior year at Corn Bible Academy that got Roman to think about his friend Vangie as something more. She had no clue. During this trip, both Vangie and Roman went on a crisp morning walk together through the mountains. During this time, Roman began to develop feelings for the girl he'd known as a close friend for over three years. Throughout the next few months, they spent a lot of time together with their close circle of friends and started getting to know each other better.

Although the two started eating dinner and bowling together as though on dates, Vangie didn't realize Roman was working up the courage to tell Vangie of his true feelings. But on July 6, 2004, after eating dinner at Portobello Grille, Roman drove around the city of Elk City telling Vangie that he liked her, but he still wanted to be friends if the feelings weren't mutual. Much to his dismay, Vangie asked if he could wait on her answer, because she felt that this was something she needed to think and pray about.

Two days. Vangie didn't mention this again until two days later even though they spoke on the phone on the seventh. They made plans to celebrate Roman's eighteenth birthday at Alfredo's on July 8 where she gave him his birthday present. He wasn't to open it until after he arrived home. What Roman didn't know was that inside the gift was a note that said she was “willing to give 'us' a try.”

They dated through their senior year and God led them both to Friends University for college. During the summer of 2006, Vangie moved back to Oklahoma and Roman stayed in Wichita with his parents. They saw each other every other weekend during that summer. It was on an off weekend that Roman planned the proposal. It was going to be a surprise because Vangie was not expecting to see him on that day.

July 14, 2006 began with Roman in Wichita, Kan. and Vangie in Clinton, Okla. He spoke with her briefly on the phone during the morning, but then avoided talking to her for the rest of the day. Roman drove to Oklahoma City to begin getting ready for the evening. After cleaning the engagement ring he had been keeping secret since April, he met up with his two close friends, Ryan and Danny. Together, they got things ready and went to the Will Rodgers Rose Garden to wait for Vangie's arrival.

At 7 p.m., Vangie and her parents arrived at the Will Rodgers Rose Garden. As they walked through the park, Roman watched all three get closer and closer to him until Vangie finally saw him. On the hottest day of the year, Roman was standing in his suit with a dozen roses that he had been holding for 45 minutes just in case they were early. Near a soothing creek surrounded by trees and wildlife, Roman exclaimed his love for the beautiful girl he met in eighth grade. With Vangie's heart melting, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. With a joyful yes, the couple enjoyed the garden, a limo ride around Lake Hefner and romantic dinner for two in a private gazebo as the sun was setting over the lake. It was the end to a perfect evening.

July 14, 2006 ended with a couple in love and ready to get married.

Vangie and Roman were married on June 7, 2008 at 6:30 in the evening. They are following God together through life's exciting journey.
